The Speedway Artist Collective is a permanent program out of the Mars Hill Arts Center, founded by Lisa and John Schmitz, with the mission of encouraging, supporting, and promoting local artists by giving them a place to sell their works. This is a permanent program of the MHAC, as its founders are from Speedway and have continued to serve this area with a focus on the arts and creative endeavors in Wayne Township and the west side of Indianapolis. This shop offers a variety of artists with not only Speedway related arts and crafts, but fine art and a variety of creative offerings, as well as classes.
“We created this collaborative art community to serve not only race fans, but Speedway, Indianapolis, and Indiana art fans alike. This new shop opportunity presented itself just as we finalized our plan for the 2024 month of May on Main Street. It has been the perfect segue from the month of May to be able connect with the community in an ongoing fashion. The shop sits right in the heart of the redeveloped 16th and Lynhurst corridor with some other amazing businesses. We are enjoying partnering with them to create a special location in Speedway where art, food, and fun collide, inspiring #shopthecornerSpeedway” says Lisa. “We hope to create a welcoming, creative experience showcasing great local artists for years to come,” she adds.
